What habitat is, and what it refuses to be. Short on purpose.

It observes; it never interprets

Habitat keeps records and reports their geometry. It does not rank, advise, predict, or decide what a record means. Interpretation belongs to the person who holds the record. Every reading habitat serves is a measurement you can recompute, never a judgment you are asked to accept.

It keeps acts, not strings

What enters is read as an act: someone doing something. Each act is held two ways at once — a structural reading derived from linguistic theory, and a meaning embedding — and the field's shape is computed from how acts accumulate. That shape (which dimensions carry signal, where practice is dense, where something just broke through) is what the overlay endpoints report.

Append-only, un-erasable

Nothing in a field is edited or erased behind its holder. What enters is kept whole, and every change to the record is itself part of the record.

Sequestered

No model writes back into your field, and no model reads meaning into it. The boundary is architectural — enforced in the storage layer and tested — not a policy promise.

Checkable, or absent

Every number habitat publishes reproduces from the data's own bytes, in your browser or offline. Where we published something we later could not stand behind, the retraction sits on the same page as the claim: every correction.

The numbers reproduce, and we publish what works and what doesn't. Relevant logs are available on request.
